Outdoor Education Program Specialist

Cedar Park, TX Cedar Park, TX Part-time Part-time $15 - $19 an hour $15 - $19 an hour Are you interested in teaching children about themselves and the natural world that surrounds them? YMCA Camp Twin Lakes is now seeking energetic and engaging individuals who are enthusiastic about providing excellent programming to school and retreat groups.
Camp Twin Lakes runs an outdoor education (OE) program focused on hands-on experiential education for children in grades 2-8 on our 55-acre property in Cedar Park during the school year.
Additionally, we host groups and retreats on the weekends in the non-summer season.
Outdoor Education Instructors teach TEK aligned science curriculum focused on Natural Sciences, facilitate teambuilding and lead recreational activities that include archery, canoeing, rock climbing, astronomy and campfire programs.
This is a part-time seasonal position that has a great deal of flexibility.
There will be a wide range of shifts available (i.
e.
mornings, afternoons, evenings, and weekends).
We will work with you and your schedule.
Essential Functions:
Teaches curriculum in areas of Natural Science, Teambuilding and Adventure Education (includes canoeing, archery and challenge course) Develops positive, friendly, professional rapport with guests and fellow staff members Facilitates recreational activities and evening programs as scheduled for OE and/or weekend groups May have opportunities to:
lead meals in the Dining Hall, facilitate large evening programs and run orientation meetings for students/teachers Keeps program/teaching areas clean and camp equipment maintained safely for all guests Flexible to adapt to programs and the needs and desires of our guests
Qualifications:
18 years of age College graduate or coursework and experience in a relevant field (Education, Recreation, Science, Environmental Education, Psychology, etc.
) is preferred Experience working with you and/or working in the outdoors is preferred Positive attitude, high energy, enthusiasm, team oriented and service minded Desire to grow both personally and professionally as a member of community non-profit Pay Range:
$15.
