For Sale: 1979 Mercury Capri in Cedar Park, Texas for sale in Cedar Park, TX
Vehicle Description This is the first year of the Ford Fox Body.
The Capri was brought over from the British version, placed on a Fox Body platform, and given some body variations from the Mustang.
This Capri was purchased by my parents in Detroit in 1979.
In 1980, my parents moved to California where it was was my mother's commuter.
When my parents retired to the high desert of California in 1985, the Capri was regulated to short runs.
My father passed away and my mother was considering selling the car.
I told her to hold on to it and I will take it because I had been reading several of the Mustang and Ford magazines and felt there was something I could do with it.
In 1998, my wife and I flew out from Austin, TX, and drove the Capri home.
It had 72000 miles.
Not too long after we had the Capri home, I dug into it.
I started tearing it down, cleaning, thinking about what it could be.
I was excited about the challenge of doing a rebuild myself.
I pulled the engine and trans and rebuilt both.
I rebuilt the suspension.
I then switched from the original 3 speed auto to a five-speed manual.
It was exciting when after over 2 years, I started the engine again after installing a cam and several bolt on power parts.
I even participated in the local Ford and Mustang show a couple years and won some awards.
I had a performance shop replace the Edlebrock carb with MSD Atomic EFI and swap the 3 speed automatic with the 5 speed manual.
The tachometer is not working.
Now that I am retired, I am no longer working on or driving the car.
This car will make a great addition to any Fox Body fan's collection, or could be a great starter project for father and son/daughter, since it is complete, runs, stops, etc.
